The Optimal Robotics U-Scan is an automated self-checkout system that enables shoppers to scan, bag and pay for their purchases with limited or no assistance from store personnel.
The POS system’s ergonomic design provides easy-to-reach devices and a new high-resolution graphic interface that guides shoppers through the self-checkout process.
Optimal Robotics states that a recent study of retail chains showed that a U-Scan may pay itself off between 9 and 18 months after installation, reducing front-end labor costs by 120-150 man hours per week.
These scaleable, ATM-inspired terminals provide a bagging capacity ranging from one to five bags and can be modified on-site to accommodate changes in shopper throughput.
“The response to our new U-Scan(R) system has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Henry Karp, Optimal’s President and Chief Operating Officer, “We believe the changes to the system are representative of the evolution of self-checkout and clearly satisfy the changing needs of our customers.”
Currently, U-Scan is the leading self-checkout solution in North America with over 8,000 terminals installed by retailers such as Kroger, Ahold and A&P. For more information visit www.opmr.com. PR
